Tokyo, Seoul in row over islets

Japan defended July 15 its decision to include in teaching guidelines its claims to islands controlled by South Korea. The move caused Seoul to protest and recall its ambassador. The islets are called Dokdo in Korean and Takeshima in Japanese. In a curious development, Okamoto, Japan's largest condom maker, had to take down its ads from South Korean subways as tensions rose. 中学校の新しい学習指導要領の解説書に、日本の領土である「竹島」の領有権問題が初めて明記されたことに対して、韓国側が大きく反発している。
