More than 6,000 babies sickened by milk

Chinese officials said Sept. 17 that the number of babies sick from tainted milk formula had risen to nearly 6,200. At least three children have died and more than 1,300 others, mostly newborns, are in hospital. Many are suffering from serious kidney failure. Around 20 people have been arrested for adding the industrial chemical melamine to watered-down milk to make it seem higher in protein. (AP)
