Japan ranks 98th for female MPs

A record 18.8 percent of lawmakers around the world are women, an Inter-Parliamentary Union survey showed March 3. Japan ranked 98th at 11.3 percent with 54 of its 480 Lower House seats held by women. A year earlier, Japan placed 104th at 9.4 percent. Japan trails China, in 55th, North Korea, 78th, and South Korea, 82nd. The data represented the percentage of women in unicameral parliaments or in the lower houses of parliament. (Kyodo News)
女性国会議員の割合、日本は世界で98位
世界の女性国会議員数の全議席に占める割合が、2010年1月1日時点で18.8%と過去最高になったことが分かった。国別順位では、日本は11.3%(衆議院)で98位だった。
