Muroto area wins geopark status
|

Shikoku's Muroto area has been added to the list of UNESCO-sponsored geoparks — nature parks deemed of particular importance because of their geological features — the Paris-based Global Geoparks Network said Sept. 18. The designation came after the network conducted its screening of the area. The area in Kochi Prefecture, the fifth place in Japan to win geopark status, is known for a coastline and a cape thrown up by massive earthquakes in the distant past. (Kyodo News)
