Kyoto urges more samurai dramas

Alarmed by the rapid disappearance of samurai from Japanese TV dramas, officials from Kyoto, the home of historical drama studios, visited three of Tokyo's major commercial TV networks Nov. 8 to urge them to produce more such dramas, saying they are an important tool to convey Japanese culture to the world. Constant production is indispensable to preserve and pass on know-how accumulated by staff involved in the production of historical drama series, such as artisans who make costumes, Kyoto Gov. Keiji Yamada and Kyoto Mayor Daisaku Kadokawa said in a joint written request. (Kyodo News)

時代劇が次々にテレビから姿を消す中、京都府と京都市は11月7日、在京民放キー局に対して時代劇の放映を求める要望書を提出すると発表した。
