北京公安当局、市民に反日デモ自粛要請
北京公安当局は9月19日、市民に対して携帯メールを送り、日本大使館周辺でデモを行なわないよう呼び掛けた。
China tells anti-Japan protesters to back off
Beijing's public safety authorities Sept. 19 used a mass text message to ask people to refrain from staging protests against Japan as it tried to temper public anger over Japan's nationalization of the Senkaku Islands, according to the Japanese Embassy in Beijing.
No protests were seen in front of the Japanese Embassy as of early Sept. 19 afternoon, and the embassy said it had no specific information about protests in other Chinese cities that day.
The move was the first visible attempt to calm tensions since the islets also claimed by China were nationalized Sept. 11, setting off protests that resulted in the vandalization of Japanese factories, stores and restaurants in China.
A text message sent out by police told citizens not to go to the embassy area for anti-Japan rallies and to cooperate to maintain public order, the embassy said. (Kyodo News)
