英語と映画

Vol. 3 : シュレック2

7月24日公開の『シュレック2』で声優を担当したマイク・マイヤーズ、キャメロン・ディアズ、浜田雅功、藤原紀香、そしてプロデューサーのジェフェリー・カッツェンバーグが都内ホテルで記者会見を開いた。　何度も顔を合わせている間柄なので、雰囲気は実にリラックスしたもの。特にシュレック役のマイク・マイヤーズと浜田雅功は終始じゃれあっていて、2人での写真撮影のときはほおをすり寄せ合って抱き合い、会見終了後には追いかけっこをしながら退場するなど、サービス精神にあふれた会見であった。

どのキャラクターが好きか？との質問に、声優たちの間で一番人気だったのが、『シュレック2』に新しく登場した長靴をはいたネコ。キャメロンは、 　"I'm basically a cat myself, so my favorite character has to Puss in Boots. Basically, he's cute. He swayed me, he drew me, and then he seduced, shall we say, with his looks, and his humor, of course. And the boots. How can you not fall for a puss in boots?"

と、この新キャラクターの魅力を力説していた。 　浜田も藤原もこのキャラクターがお気に入りのようだ。マイクはもちろん、シュレックがお気に入り。カッツェンバーグはというと、 　"Shrek, because he is the heart and soul of the film. It's his journey, that we all get to go along with him, and I think, his appeal lies in the fact that there's a bit of ogre in all of us."

とのことだ。 　映画と違って、声優はほかの出演者と絡むこともなく、体の動きで表現することもないので難しくはなかったか？という質問に対して、マイクは、 　"It's easy. You fall in love with all the characters, and you forget that it's Eddie Murphy or Antonio Banderas. You see the donkey, you see Princess Fiona, and you see the cat. And you do it over such a long period of time that you can redo stuff which is fun, and I just love being in that world."

と答えてくれた。一方、浜田はマイクたちが入れた音声に合わせて日本語を入れるのがとても難しかったと苦労を語っていた。 　日本の印象について尋ねると、初来日のマイクは、 　"I love Japan. I'm a great Japanophile. That's why I set the third Austin Powers movie in Japan. When I was a kid, I used to love playing with models, many of which came from Japan, and I'd like to thank you for them, as a nation."

と楽しそうに語ってくれた。 　何度か来日の経験があるキャメロンは、 　"I first came to Japan when I was 16, the first time I left home. I came for two to three months during the summer, and it took me 14 years - maybe longer - to come back. But I've always wanted to come back here, because my experience made such an impressions on me — the people, the culture, the aesthetic, the food （Love the food!） that it's made so much of a difference to me.

"My experience here when I was 16 has been such a part of who I've become as an adult. I love this country and everything about it. I always think of it as poetic chaos, and I mean that in the most flattering way. It's something that makes sense to me and I really enjoyed it. I want to spend more time here, which I will one day, not promoting a film but just coming here and getting a bath or something."

と、親日派をアピール。 　そんなキャメロンに、藤原が「（キャメロンの趣味がサーフィンなので）日本でサーフィンのできるいい場所を教えてあげるわ」と言うと、"I'll call you when I come to Japan next time!"と、うれしそうな表情をしたのが印象的だった。
