A former senior executive of a pension fund admitted Nov. 2 to embezzlement in a scandal worth billions in company pensions.
Yoshinobu Sakamoto, 55, the former general manager of the Nagano Prefecture construction employees' pension fund, was arrested Nov. 1 in Bangkok for being in the country illegally. Officials said he would be sent back to Japan.
Speaking to reporters, Sakamoto said he had spent all the embezzled funds but didn't say on what.
"(I'll talk) after returning to Japan," he said. (Kyodo)
