Sara Takanashi, the favorite for the gold medal in the inaugural Olympic women's normal hill ski jumping event Feb. 11, finished off the podium after a disappointing effort at the RusSki Gorki Jumping Centre.
After winning 10 of the 13 World Cup events this season, Takanashi was favored to claim Japan's first gold in any discipline since the 1998 Nagano Games, but it wasn't meant to be as she came in fourth.
"I came here wanting to do my best," she said. "I'm incredibly disappointed." (The Japan Times)
