A man and woman serving life in prison for starting a fire that killed the woman's 11-year-old daughter were freed Oct. 26 when the Osaka High Court ordered their release following a decision to reopen the arson-murder case.
Keiko Aoki, 51, and Tatsuhiro Boku, 49, had served two decades behind bars for setting fire to their house to kill the girl and collect fire insurance.
However, Judge Masaaki Yoneyama said Oct. 26 it was highly likely they were not guilty and that it would be "unjust" to keep them in prison. (Kyodo)
