Top-seeded Japan beat host Thailand on May 26 to capture its first Uber Cup women's team badminton championship since 1981.
A day earlier, the Thais stunned defending champs China in the semifinals. But they were outclassed in the final by Japan, who didn't drop a game to win 3-0. Akane Yamaguchi and Nozomi Okuhara won their singles games, and Yuki Fukushima and Sayaka Hirota won the doubles.
It is Japan's sixth Uber Cup title. The first five were from 1966 to 1981. (Kyodo)
