Japan twice took the lead but failed to deliver a first win for new manager Javier Aguirre in a 2-2 friendly draw with Venezuela on Sept. 9.
All the goals came in the second half, with Japan taking the lead through Yoshinori Muto and Gaku Shibasaki. Japanese blunders, however, allowed Venezuela to equalize twice.
Aguirre was unconcerned with the draw, despite an earlier 2-1 loss to Uruguay on Sept. 5.
“It’s better to make these mistakes in friendlies like this,” he said. (The Japan Times)
