Ariel Sharon was laid to rest Jan. 13 at his ranch in southern Israel as the nation bid a final farewell to one of its most colorful and influential leaders.
Sharon died Jan. 11, eight years after a devastating stroke removed him from office and left him in a coma from which he never recovered. He was 85.
His backers called him a hero, in part for his exploits in helping Israel win the 1973 Mideast war.
Many in the Arab world, however, revile him as a war criminal, saying that his actions led to more violence. (AP)
