European creditors issued Greece with an ultimatum Feb. 16, saying the country must extend its current bailout plan or face having to meet its debt commitments on its own ― a prospect that would leave Greece little option but to leave the euro.
The new Syriza government blames the bailout plan for the country’s economic ills. Despite the impasse, Greek Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis was optimistic a deal would be reached.
“Europe will do the usual trick: It will pull a good agreement” out of the impasse, he said. (AP)
