An appeals court Nov. 10 cleared experts who had been convicted of failing to adequately warn of the risk before an earthquake struck central Italy in 2009, killing over 300 people.
The court in L’Aquila, the city struck by the 6.3-magnitude quake, overturned guilty verdicts, saying no crime had been committed. The decision was met by cries of “shame” in the courtroom, packed with quake survivors.
“We’re satisfied with the decision,” defense lawyer Coppi said, but “we are sorry for the families of the victims.” (AP)
