Jean-Marie Le Pen, founder of France's far-right National Front, said April 13 he would not seek its ticket to stand in regional polls, taking some of the sting out of a damaging public row with his daughter Marine, the party's current leader.
The 86-year-old had said April 2 that Nazi gas chambers were a "detail" of World War II — a view he has expressed before.
But after saying April 13 he would not stand for office, he said in an interview that he was "disappointed" in his daughter and wouldn't quit politics. (Reuters)
