A Peruvian man who has admitted killing a 7-year-old Hiroshima girl last month allegedly molested an 8-year-old girl in his hometown of Guadalupe, Peru, in 1995, sources said Dec. 5. The man was also suspected of molesting a 9-year-old girl there in December 1992.
The suspect may have illegally changed his name and date of birth to leave for Japan in 2004 to avoid being caught by police.
The suspect, who entered Japan under the name of Juan Carlos Pizarro Yagi, has told police that his real name is Jose Manuel Torres Yagi.
But officials in Peru say the suspect's name is Jose Manuel Torres Yake, and that he has also been registered under the name of Robert Frank Pizarro Vargas.
The girl in Hiroshima is believed to have been strangled while on her way home from school. Her body, still warm, was found in a taped-up cardboard carton in a parking lot near where the suspect lived.
The suspect has admitted killing Airi Kinoshita but has said he did not intend to kill her.
Meanwhile, in response to the crime, the Japanese government has said it plans to set up a panel to discuss measures to prevent crimes by foreigners. (Kyodo)
