Court clears wrongly convicted man

A Toyama man who was wrongly convicted of two rape cases in 2002 and spent years in prison was cleared Oct. 10. The false conviction of Hiroshi Yanagihara, 40, came from a common police tactic to force suspects to confess. The details of how the confession was forced were not revealed. Eiichi Otsu, is now on trial for the crime. Otsu is an alleged serial rapist who victimized 14 women. (Kyodo)
