Thai prime minister flees to London
|
|
Thailand's ousted Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra jumped bail and fled to London on Aug. 11, saying he could not expect a fair trial in Thailand.
Thaksin and his wife did not return to Thailand after they were allowed to go to China for the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics.
Thaksin, a telecommunications billionaire-turned-politician, is accused of using the position of prime minister to illegally enrich himself and his family.
The accusations led to a coup in 2006, when he was forced to go into exile. He returned to Thailand six months ago. (AP)
