A Wal-Mart worker was killed Nov. 28 in New York's Long Island when "out-of-control" shoppers desperate for bargains broke down the doors at a 5 a.m. sale. Police said about 2,000 people were gathered outside the store doors at the mall about 30 km east of Manhattan. The impatient crowd knocked the man, identified by police as Jdimytai Damour, to the ground as he opened the doors. Sales on the day after the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday rose to $10.6 billion from $10.3 billion in 2007, according to preliminary figures released by a research firm. (AP)
