Furkid

Many people treat pets like they are their own children, particularly people who do not have children. To them, a dog can be like a son or a daughter. These people often do not like the word pet, because it suggests a master-servant relationship. It also suggests that the animal is only a possession. So instead pets are called furkids, furchildren or furbabies. Another common term for pet is animal companion or just companion. The owner is often referred to as an animal guardian, or just guardian.
