Imagine you are playing soccer with a friend. By mistake, you kick the ball very high and it gets stuck in a tall tree. Your friend tells you that you have to climb the tree to get the ball. "Easier said than done," you say. This proverb means that it's easy to tell someone to do something ? much easier than actually doing it yourself. Use it when someone suggests that you do something very difficult. You can also use it when you are faced with a problem — e.g., the soccer ball stuck in the tree. You know what has to be done, you know you have to climb the tree to get the ball, but you also know it's very difficult. In those cases, you can say to yourself, "Easier said than done."
