Bai Yun and Gao Gao are the most successful panda couple kept in a zoo. They live in San Diego Zoo. Since 2003, they have produced three cubs.

Bai Yun and Gao Gao only meet for two days each year. During those two days, Bai Yun is fertile. For the rest of the year, they are happy to be alone. Pandas do not like to be together.

Pandas are not very good at having children. This is one of the reasons why they are endangered. Female pandas can only conceive on three days each year.

Bai Yun has had four cubs. Three of those cubs were with her "super" mate, Gao Gao.

Bai Yun's first cub was born in 1999. She was artificially inseminated by Shi Shi, a male panda. It was the first panda cub in the United States in 10 years.

Shi Shi was not as virile as people thought, so Bai Yun was introduced to Gao Gao. This was Gao Gao's first time with a female panda so the zookeepers were worried. Did he know what to do?
