MSDF officers acquitted over collision
|

Two Maritime Self-Defense Force (MSDF) officers were acquitted May 11 at the Yokohama District Court over a predawn collision in 2008 between an MSDF destroyer and a small fishing vessel off the coast of Chiba Prefecture that killed two fishermen. Accepting the officers' claim that a right turn made by the 7.3-ton fishing vessel Seitoku Maru caused the risk of a collision, presiding Judge Hiroshi Akiyama determined that it was not the responsibility of the 7,750-ton Aegis destroyer Atago to take avoidance action. イージス艦衝突事故、自衛官2人に無罪判決
千葉県の房総半島沖で海上自衛隊のイージス艦「あたご」と漁船が衝突し、漁船に乗っていた2人が死亡した事故の裁判で、業務上過失致死などに問われた自衛官2人に対して横浜地裁は5月11日、無罪を言い渡した。
