図表を読み取って、それに関する問いに答える問題。Life expectancy（平均寿命）という言葉があり、さらに世界の国々がランク付けされているのが見て取れる。よって、これは平均寿命の長い順に、世界の国々の上位８番目までを並べた表だと分かる。これを理解したら、それぞれの数字に気をつけながら、設問を解いていこう。

8. B 図表のmain purpose（主な目的）が問われている。前述の通り、これは男性・女性それぞれの平均寿命が長い順に世界の国々を並べたランキング。よって、B「さまざな国の人々の平均寿命を比べるため」が最も目的として適当だと分かる。A「平均寿命と学業成績の関係を示すため」は、後半の「学業成績」がまったく関係ない。C「日本の女性の平均寿命を示すため」は、「日本人女性」に限定しているのがおかしい。これは、この図表の主旨ではない。D「各国で、いかに平均寿命が延びたのかを示すため」が正解になるためには、数年前と比較したデータである必要がある。

9. A 「最も男性の平均寿命が長い国」が問われている。男性のランキングではIcelandが１位なのでAが正解。こうした「（図表を）見ただけで分かる問題」は、時間をかけずに素早く解答したいところ。

10. B シンガポール人男性について、図表から読み取れることを選ぶ問題。正解はB「彼らはオーストラリア人男性より平均寿命が短い」。図表によると、シンガポール人男性の平均寿命は「80.2歳」。一方オーストラリア人男性は「80.5歳」なので、Bの記述は正しいことが分かる。それ以外の選択肢（A「シンガポール人女性より平均寿命が長い」、C「スイス人男性より平均寿命が長い」、D「平均寿命は85年以上だ」）はすべて、図表の内容と異なるため正解にはならない。

11. C スイス人男性について、図表から読み取れることを選ぶ問題。前問と同じように考えよう。スイス人男性の平均寿命は「80.7歳」、韓国人女性は「84.6歳」なので、C「韓国人女性よりも平均寿命が短い」が正解。それ以外の選択肢（A「スイス人女性より平均寿命が長い」、B「オーストラリア人男性と平均寿命の長さが同じだ」、D「日本人男性より平均寿命が短い」）は、すべて図表から読み取れる内容と一致しない。
