Trophy child

A trophy child is a child who is used by his or her parents to impress other people and to raise their own status. These are children that the parents can boast about. This may because the child is very good at school work or at sport, or the child might go to a particularly good school. The term suggests that parents are selfish, and think of the child only in terms of themselves. Also known as a trophy kid.
