The darkest hour is just before dawn

Perhaps this is not exactly true, perhaps the darkest moment of the night is not just before it starts getting light, but often it can feel like that. This proverb is used when someone has lost all hope. It means that a situation often improves after it has been terrible, that good things eventually come from a bad situation.
