▼ Use I'm on cloud nine and I'm in seventh heaven when you're very happy.
I'm on cloud nine. とI'm in seventh heaven. は「最高にうれしい、楽しい」という意味です。
For example, a man goes for an interview for a job that he really wants. He gets the job and he says, "I'm so happy I'm in seventh heaven."
But he remembers how nervous he was just before the interview. He had butterflies in his stomach.
▼ I have butterflies in my stomach.は「アガっている、緊張している」という意味です。
Because he was so nervous, he couldn't sit still in the waiting room. He kept on standing up, sitting down, and walking about the room. "He had ants in his pants," said one of the secretaries.
▼ He has ants in his pants.は、「不安だ、そわそわしている」という意味です。
He then goes into the interview and made many stupid mistakes during the interview. "I wish the earth would just swallow me up," he thought to himself.
I wish the earth would just swallow me up. は「穴があったら入りたい」という意味です。
One of the interviewers was very cruel and he asked the man many questions which he knew the man couldn't answer. "He made me feel this high," said the man to his friends later, "I had my nose rubbed in it."
▼ He made me feel this high. は「屈辱を感じた」という意味です。 I had my nose rubbed in it.も、「屈辱を感じた」という意味です。
Waiting for the results of the interview, the man was on pins and needles.
I'm on pins and needles.は「びくびくしている、そわそわしている」という意味です。
The interviewers discussed what they thought of the man. "He bored the pants off me," said the cruel interviewer.
It bored the pants off me.は「すごく退屈だった」という意味です。
But looking back to the first example, we know the man finally got the job and was "on cloud nine."
