Emma: Hey! (1) Look at you! (2) How've you been?
Takuro: Hey. Been good, thanks.
Emma: (3) Great to see you back. So, it's been. . .what, two years, (4) since you left for the States? How's it feel to be back in Japan?
Takuro: Well, I guess we have a new administration. . . Yeah, (5) things look pretty different from two years ago.
Emma: (6) Speaking of differences . . . Looks like you've lost weight. Before you left I was assuming all the junk food you'd eat over there would make you fat.
Takuro: Hey, you noticed. Actually, (7) I quit smoking.
Emma: You did? How? I mean, (8) before you used to smoke, like, two packs a day. Unbelievable. Good for you.
Takuro: Thanks. I wish now that I'd done that earlier. Feels great.
Emma: But they usually say that people gain weight (9) after they stop smoking.
Takuro: Right. (10) And I did. Right after I quit, everything tasted delicious and just like that, I was up 7 kilos. So after about three months I started running.
Emma: I see. So that's how you lost weight.
Takuro: Yep. (11) No pain, no gain. I was so into running that two weeks before I left I even ran in the local marathon.
Emma: I'm impressed. Maybe I should start running too.
Takuro: Yeah, you should. You'd definitely slim down.
Emma: . . . Wait. You're trying to say that I'm overweight?
Takuro: No, no, no. (12) Of course not. Not at all. Um, what I meant was . . . ur. . ..
