Chris: Hi. How was your weekend?
Natsumi: Went to see a movie. First time in ages! How bout you?
Chris: Um, my wife decided to go shopping and I had to accompany her. (1) I was shocked at how crowded the stores were! Is it always like that in Japan?
Natsumi: Not really. (2) I guess it's because all the department stores are having sales right now. (3) They gotta get rid of all the summer stuff to make way for the new autumn line-ups.
Chris: Get rid of the summer stuff? What for? That's what everyone needs right now. Noticed how brutal it is out there? I'm surprised no one's come in to work in a swimsuit yet . . .
Natsumi: Yeah, but that's (4) how it works in the fashion world. (5) They're like months ahead of the actual season so by the time autumn's here all the good items will be sold out or already replaced by winter clothes.
Chris: Glad I'm not a woman . . .
Natsumi: Well, I think the same goes for men too. By the way, (6) you know what's big this fall? The "military" look!
Chris: Hmm. Interesting. I was into stuff like that when I was young. But . . . how come (7) you know what the trends are going to be for the coming season?
Natsumi: Hmmm . . . I wonder why . . .
Chris: Ha, I know. It's because you're always looking at fashion websites at work, right?
Natsumi: Me? Neeever.
