Andrew: Wow! Quick, (1) come over here and check this out, Mika!

Mika: What? Oh yeah, they're showing the Sumida fireworks on TV tonight, aren't they . . . but it doesn't look like it's started yet.

Andrew: No, it hasn't but look at all those people crowded around the station and the streets are packed! Look, they're even climbing on to the rooftops! (2) I bet those aren't even their houses! This is incredible! I mean, people are going nuts over just fireworks.

Mika: "JUST" a fireworks display? Andrew, (3) you've never been to a live fireworks show in Japan, have you?

Andrew: Um, no. So?

Mika: Well, (4) if you actually saw a live firework display before you'd be scrambling up on rooftops too. Especially the big ones, like the ones like Sumida River and Tokyo Bay.

Andrew: No thanks. I've got the best seat in the house, right here on my couch in front of the TV. I'd rather be sittin' here watching fireworks in between the Giants game than be pushed and shoved for hours in summer heat - over fireworks! Hey, got any more of those wasabi chips?

Mika: Sure, (5) here you go. Well, I guess it's a Japanese thing isn't it to have an event where the fireworks are the main part of the show. They don't do that in the States, do they?

Andrew: On the 4th of July, yeah, or to kick off an event, but it's not that big of a deal. . . . Yeessss, it's a double for Takahashi!.

Mika: Well, you'd be amazed at the scale of these events. They've got something like 20,000 of them going up in the air.

Andrew: Wow, that is a lot.

Mika: It really is an awesome sight. You really should go. (6) Actually, let's do that. The Tokyo Bay one's coming up. Let's drop by after work. You'll have a great time.

Andrew: Yeah, well, OK. I guess I should go and see what all the fuss is about.

Mika: Trust me. You'll have a blast. Heh-heh. Get it?

Andrew: (groans)
