タイトル：シングリッシュを聞いてみない？ (Let's listen to some Singlish?) ◆ 北京オリンピックが近づいています。 「英語圏以外の人が話す英語」も聞く機会が増えるのではないでしょうか。 As the Beijing Olympics draw closer, you'll probably get more chances to hear English as spoken by people who are not native speakers. 本コラムでも今回、その第一弾として「シンガポールの英語(通称・シングリッシュ)をご紹介します。 So in our first installment, we'll be taking a look at Singlish. 協力してくれたのは、在日１年のフェアリンさんです。

■シングリッシュの特徴(Characteristic of Singlish) 一般に"Singlish" と呼ばれるシンガポール人が話す英語は、どのような特徴があるのでしょうか。 (What are the characteristics of Singlish?)   ● 特徴1(Characteristic 1) ☆★語尾に"lah"を付ける (Putting "la" at the end of a sentence.) 中国語（福建語）またはマレー語からきているといわれている (It is said that "la" has its origin in Chinese or Malaysian.) ★☆ "ok ?lah!" など、語尾にlahを付けます。これは、日本語の語尾に付ける「よ」「ね」などに当たります。 (Putting "la" at the end of a sentence can be considered the same as putting 'yo' and 'ne' at the end of a sentence in Japanese.) Example (例) Question: Are you coming or not?（ ねぇ、来るの？こないの？） Answer: I can not go lah, my mother says cannot lah. （来られないよ。お母さんがダメっていうんだ。(-_-;)） ● 特徴2(Characteristic 2) ☆★ 同じ言葉を繰り返す。☆★ (Repeating words) Question: Can you help me?　 (手伝ってくれる？） Answer: Can, can(instead of "Yes, I can")　（はい、はい） ⇒このシングリッシュは、ちょっと日本語みたいね。(^o^)丿 (It's similar to Japanese, isn't it? (^o^)丿) そのほかのシングリッシュ 例）ＯＫ了！（できるよ！） ■では、センテンスで聞いてみましょう。 （上のがシングリッシッュ、下のがスタンダードイングリッシュです。） ★クラスの人数は？ Class got how many students ah? (How many students are there in a class?) ★英語は何歳からはじめるの？ When do you start learning English one ah? (When do you start learning English？) ★政府は小学校での英語教育を奨励している？ Your country the government from young ask people to study Englihsh is it? (Is English education from an early age encouraged by the government?) ★それで、小学校での英語の授業は週何時間あるの？ Primary School that time study English how long a week? (On average, how many hours each week do elementary school students study English?) ★英語の先生はネイティブ？ English teacher is speak English from young one is it? (Are English teachers native speakers?) ★韓国に英語の塾はあるの？ South Korea got cram schools? (Are there many English cram schools in South Korea?) ★外国人の生徒や移民はいるの？ School got other country student? If have, they come from where? (Are there foreign students? If so, where are they from?) ★識字率を教えて！ Your country got how many percent of people can read and write? (What is Your country's literacy rate?)
