Vol. 21 : After the World Cup

Bill: (yawns)

Sachiko: You look sleepy. Did you watch the World Cup last night?

Bill: Yep. (1) Gotta see the final live.

Sachiko: So who won?

Bill: You really don't care about the World Cup now that (2) Japan's out of it, do you? For your reference, (3) Spain beat the Netherlands 1-0 and claimed their first ever World Cup title. And (4) what a game that was!

Sachiko: Really? Well, my World Cup ended when Japan lost to Paraguay.

Bill: There were so many great matches other than the Japan games. Above all, (5) Spain's passing game was just spectacular!

Sachiko: (9) そういえば、もし日本がパラグアイに勝っていたら準々決勝で対戦していたのよね。観てみたかったなあ。

Bill: They played well against the Netherlands so I'd say they probably would have put up a good fight against Spain too. (6) Japan's really improved.

Sachiko: Yeah, but Okada is going to quit, I hear. It's a shame. Just when the team has started to get going . . .

Bill: Hang on, before the World Cup started you were saying you wanted him to be fired!

Sachiko: Well, things have changed since then. Opinions change. (7) I am now a true believer of Oka-chan!

Bill: That's fine, but next time (8) I'm believing in the octopus.

Sachiko: Wha . . .
