Q: As presenter, how do you try and keep the show interesting?
A: The program is aimed at English learners, but I'm hoping even people who are indifferent to English or don't understand simple words like "a" or "do" will find it interesting. I want to show viewers the pleasure of communication. By talking with people from different cultures, we can learn a lot of things and stimulate our own lives.
Q: How has the program affected you?
A: I used to think it was shameful to make mistakes in public. But I've come to realize it's not a big deal. I want to encourage viewers not to be afraid to speak out in English. While struggling through interviews or doing something I am not familiar with, I've become more enthusiastic about having new experiences. It's helped me grow as a person, and my English, I hope, has improved, too.
Q: What drew you to English?
A: I'm fond of traveling overseas. But when I visited New York for the first time on vacation three years ago, I found it very difficult to express myself in English. At the airport, I couldn't understand what the immigration officials were saying and I couldn't even order at a restaurant. I felt very alone. I was afraid to leave my hotel room. I'd had great hopes for the trip and made a lot of plans in advance, but I didn't enjoy myself. So the day after I came back, I entered an English school to learn the language in earnest.
