Don't look a gift horse in the mouth

This proverb means that you should be grateful when you receive a gift. Otherwise it is rude. The expression comes from the custom of checking a horse's teeth to see how old it is. Checking to see if a horse, which is given to you as a gift, is old or not would not be polite.
